The Coolangatta Sands Backpackers is in the heart of Cooly and conveniently located upstairs, above the Coolangata Sands Hotel. With less than a kilometre walk to the famous Coolangatta Beach, it’s the perfect location to base yourself while staying on the coast.
With the Cooly Sands Hotel just downstairs, you don’t have to go far for a drink with friends in the lounge bistro/bar or a delicious pizza and share plates after a day in the sun and surf.
Visit the Tour Desk, located in Reception, to find out all the natural wonders, adventure activities, fun parks and more that are on offer to you while in the region. The staff at the backpackers can help you with booking all activities and printing off any tickets and information you may need. Be sure to keep an eye on what’s happening downstairs at the Cooly Sands Hotel – with great live music happening most weekends!
During your time on the Tweed Coast, be sure to book in a diving session to experience some of the best untapped diving on the east coast of Australia. If you’re a beginner, you can get up close and personal with the resident turtle population off Cook Island, or head out the Nine Mile Reef for a more experienced dive.
This is one of the few sanctuaries in Australia where you can hold a koala, snakes, baby crocodiles and feed the local kangaroos, all in the one place. There are also tours that you can book and a Green Challenge ropes course that is made up of 65 challenges over 4 separate courses.
If you love water sports, Endless Summer Stand-Up Paddleboarding and Kayak Hire offers equipment hire on the banks of the Tweed River. Beginner paddlers can stay in the protected area of the river (max 4 knots), while more experienced paddlers can explore the main river.
